The Basics
What is a Military Watch?
There isn’t a specific watch worn by all military or Special Forces. (The government doesn’t really issue timepieces to most of the armed services). Of course, all these types of watches should be dependable and not flashy so they won’t attract unwanted attention. And it all comes down to your need and if it conforms to uniform standards. It shouldn’t be too big which makes it heavy and clumsy. The ideal military watch should be lightweight, rugged, easy to read at night, and reliable. For any other features in a watch, it all depends on your personal situation. They can come with a compass, a barometer, be higher shock or water resistant. They can be made from stainless steel, carbon fiber, and some are more expensive than others.
Buying Advice
Here are some things to consider when buying a military watch.
Uniform compliant – Do you plan on wearing the watch during active duty as well? If so, is uniform compliant?
Mechanical or Electronic – You can purchase a watch that is battery operated or one that needs to be wind up.
Function – What is it that you need your watch to do? Do you need a compass or something that is highly water resistant?
Form – Is the size of the watch comfortable on your wrist?
